The Alquería de Morayma is a small rural tourist complex which reflects the very best of Apujarreño style and design.

Ideally situated on the flanks of the Contraviesa hills close to the riverbank of the Guadalfeo in the Granada Alpujarra, guests can enjoy wonderful views of the high mountains in the nearby  Sierra Nevada National Park.

Nestling in the center of recently re-forested farmland comprising organically cultivated almonds, vines, figs, olives and various fruit trees - the Alquería is an oasis of water and shade in the summer months. In the nearby home farm there is excellent stabling, henhouses, a dovecote, and delightful kitchen gardens.

Mariano Cruz, the manager,  is deeply committed to the Alpujarra, it's people and their way of life. He hopes those who stay at the Alquería will leave with a greater understanding and appreciation of  some of the traditions of life in the high mountain villages. All the buildings have been cleverly reconstructed in the old style and built on many different levels to create the asymmetry of a local village; and uniquely include a bodega (wine cellar), an ermita (old chapel) and a well stocked library.

In it's second year the Alquería won the Junta de Andalucia's first prize for innovation in rural tourism and is recommended in the Spanish national newspaper EL Pais' Where to Stay list. This year the Alquería is listed in "The Good Hotel Guide" and was recommended in january as one of the 50 best hotels in Europe in a Guardian feature.

THE ACCOMMODATION is divided among 24 units (7 of which are self catering) and totals 48 places. All accommodation is centrally heated, has bathroom en suite, telephone and television, and mountain views.

Prices vary between 62 - 67 euros per double room or apartment, and up to 101 euros for a two bed roomed apartment (and about 3 more euros in high season).

THE RESTAURANT caters for two dining rooms: one rustic, large and informal, with an open fireplace, friendly bar and sunny terrace with stunning views of the mountains; the second is smaller, more intimate and wonderfully decorated with antiques and old paintings. The cuisine is a celebration of all things local; olive oil, dried tomatoes, herbs, cheeses,  pulses, vegetables, fruit and nuts. The menu often includes the thick stews, migas, charcuterie, and rice dishes for which the Alpujarra is well known. The daily menu is 12,84 euros and a la carte between 12 - 18 euros. There is a well stocked wine cellar.

THE ACTIVITIES:

In summer enjoy the swimming pool, and in winter chat beside the fire in the large dining room. Settle in the library, which has the largest collection of books and local material in the area.

* COURSES: Throughout the year the Alquería is host to numerous courses and conferences which are held in a separate 'public hall' adjacent to the main buildings. Audio visual equipment and sound systems are available on request.

* AGRICULTURAL PRACTICES: In season it is possible to see olives being milled, join in the grape harvest, make sausages, and pick fruit.

Horse riding- hacking/trekking can be arranged.

 * HIKING: Walking or bicycling (Guides are available): The surrounding countryside has well marked routes for trekking or strolling to nearby villages and beauty spots. The trans Europe route(GR7 section) and GR-142 "Senda Alpujarra"passes through the grounds. http://www.alqueriamorayma.com/gr142.htm
